The Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR), Akwa Ibom chapter on Tuesday sealed four gas stations for allegedly diverting 33,000 litres of petrol meant for Enugu to Akwa Ibom.
Mr. Bassey Nkanga, the DPR’s Operation Controller in Charge of Akwa Ibom and Cross River said the foot was recorded during surveillance of stations within state capital.
According to him, a truck with registration number MHA 416 XA loaded product from depot in Port Harcourt and was suppose to take the product to PPMC depot Enugu but was seen in Uyo.
“What we are going to do now is to call Operations Controller in Enugu that this truck that loaded product yesterday suppose to discharge it in Enugu is caught in Uyo,’’ he stated.
He said the department would dispense the product at government approved pump price of N86.50 per litres.
“We will wait for them to discharged the product and take the dip and locked up the place, when we are ready to sell, we will sell it to the public at government official price,’’ Nkanga stressed.
He said that the Operation Controller, Enugu would sanction the marketer for diversion of the product, adding that the marketer would be fined N200 per litre of the fuel diverted.
“We are sending the way bill to Operation Controller Enugu to sanction the marketer accordingly,’’ Nkanga said.
Reacting to the development, the Manager of Tarmarks Petroleum said that he bought the product at the spot market, complaining that Government had not given him his allocation for the past one year.
In a related development; DPR, Akwa Ibom has also warned Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation, filling station in Uyo for under dispensing of fuel in the state.
He mentioned that the department had written several letters to the Manager of the filling station to correct the pump to no avail. “We have written several letters to the Management of this filling stations but to no avail,’’ Nkanga stressed.
