The Supreme Court judgement, affirming Mr. Udom Gabriel Emmanuel on Wednesday, February 03, 2016, as the duly elected Governor of Akwa Ibom State, has effectively brought to an end litigation concerning the outcome of the April 11, 2015 polls.
That climax, should be immediately embraced beyond the borders of the verdict. As prevalent in advanced societies, the winner should be magnanimous in victory while the loser should be gallant in defeat.
It is expedient for all parties to close ranks and consider the overall interest of servicing the Akwa Ibom project. It must be noted that never a time did Akwa Ibom State polity witness such brouhaha as it occurred following the last gubernatorial election.
Now that the Supreme Court has spoken, let reasons prevail. There should be no victor and there should be no vanquished. It is rather, victory for justice, oneness, development and progress!
Happily, Udom Gabriel Emmanuel has proven beyond doubt that he has the capacity to govern well and deliver in line with the expectations of the people.
In the democratic space, opposition serves as a check, but (doing so) in compliance with the principle of constructiveness. The doggedness of the All Progressives Party (APC) and its candidate, Umana O. Umana in ventilating their grievances through the Courts was within the provisions of the law and in tandem with democracy.
But it is time to embrace peace. Let the verbal war which was taken into the media end. Let us be collectively proud of our State.
Our elders and our politicians have to come together and must also place the interest of the state above self and support the State government to succeed.
Evidences are fast showing that rapid development is in stock for Akwa Ibom State courtesy of the ingenuity of the current administration.
Congratulations to Udom Emmanuel for his double victory!
