The Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Onofiok Luke, has made a case for closer collaboration between the state House of Assembly and the National Institute for Legislative Studies (NILS), Abuja.
Rt. Hon. Luke made the request, Tuesday in Abuja, during a courtesy visit by him and some members of the state legislature to the management of the institute.
While commending the National Institute for Legislative Studies for deeming it fit to organize the last induction course for assembly members irrespective of party affiliation, the Akwa Ibom Speaker stressed the need for proper equipping of legislators’ library in order to guide them for the tedious task of law making.
Responding, the Director General of the institute, Dr. Ladi Hamalai, congratulated Rt. Hon. Onofiok Luke on his emergence as Akwa Ibom Speaker saying she has so far been very comfortable working with the Akwa Ibom state House of Assembly.
He lauded the state government for its effort at making dividends of democracy visible and expressed satisfaction with the progress that Akwa Ibom State legislature has made.
Eulogizing the Speaker for his giant strides in the state House of Assembly, the DG maintained; “I see in your, Mr. Speaker, the motivation to serve the people. I commend you and I must say Akwa Ibom people are lucky to have someone like you; one with the desire to achieve. Be assured that truth will always uplift and protect you.”He thanked the Speaker for appreciating the work of the institute and promoted to collaborate with the Speaker and House of Assembly for the betterment of Akwa Ibom people.
“This institute will collaborate fully with you and the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly. We will design a programme for the purpose of working with you for the betterment of Akwa Ibom people.
“We will open a direct line with your House for the relevant officers that will enable capacity building. We will link you up with proper channels and give you contacts of publishers to enrich your library collection”, The NILS DG stated.
Some of the lawmakers who accompanied the Speaker to the NILS include, Deputy Speaker, Hon. Felicia Bassey, Deputy Leader, Hon. Aniekan Bassey, Deputy Chief Whip, Hon. Nse Essien, and Hon. Archibong.
